navigating payment plans, insurance and healthsares
Homebirth is one of the best INVESTMENTS you could make for your family.
How much is it worth to have twelve full months of care with a dedicated, holistic healthcare provider whose entire practice centers on empowering your family?
Consider the peace of mind that comes with direct, 24/7 access to a midwife you know deeply, and the profound comfort of opening your door during labor to a trusted expert who honors your choices while possessing the advanced clinical skills to handle emergencies with calm precision.
What is the value of holding your newborn on your chest—cord intact, skin-to-skin—receiving gentle transition support right in your arms, even if oxygen or CPAP is needed, avoiding unnecessary NICU separations?
From significantly lower cesarean rates to a peaceful, bed-tucked postpartum period where you feel whole rather than anxious, the continuous presence, safety, and love built into this model of care is truly priceless.
Homebirth costs in GA range from $5000-$9000.
The price for my 12 month midwifery care package is $7200.

The midwifery package should be paid for by the time your birth window opens, 37 weeks.
When you begin care, we'll set up a payment schedule that reflects your preferences-- divided evenly monthly or weighted toward the end.
All the details will be in your Financial contract. You can read a version here.
Methods of payment include: Zelle, Check, Cash, Card (3% fee), HSA checks
Payment plans that need extended beyond the birth may be accomodated through third party companies like Affirm or United Medical Credit.
As an out-of-network provider, I do not receive payment from insurance companies.
However, I will assist your claim process.
...
Pay a professional midwifery biller to contact your insurance and verify the details of your benefits. They know what questions to ask.
1. I recommend Maggie at Napier Midwifery Billing
2. She emails you your insurance benefits, with guidance
Understanding what your out-of-network benefits are can also guide whether you pay for labs or ultrasounds with cash pay discounts or have them billed to your insurance.
If you can, you should apply to your insurance to consider your homebirth for in-network status through the loophole that if there are no local in-network providers offering that service, then they should allow your claim by an out-of-network provider to be applied to your in-network deductible.
Some PPOs require a referral letter from an in-network provider, like your primary care doctor. Since I am a CNM, they are referring to a licensed provider, which helps your case.
In your insurance portal you will upload a superbill or claim form completed either by me or by the biller. In the past, the billing claims could not be submitted until after birth. Starting in 2027, we must itemize all components of care on claims so it may be possible to submit claims before birth- TBS.
Insurance companies decide what they will pay for any given service code.
Examples: If they determine it is worth $4000 and your deductible is $5000 then your claim just "applies to your deductible." If your deductible has been met, then you receive the $4000.
Your insurance company issues a check to you for the determined claim amount.
Navigating out-of-network insurance claims requires specialized billing expertise. We collaborate directly with Napier Midwifery Billing to ensure your care is properly itemized and coded, giving you the best opportunity for maximum reimbursement or Gap Exception approval.
Your healthshare should have maternity benefits that cover homebirth.
We'll figure out what invoicing and receipts you need to get payment.

Homebirth is usually a generously covered benefit.
Healthshares prefer your labs and ultrasounds to be at discounted cash-pay rates, so I'll add the lab costs to your invoice and refer you to a cash-pay ultrasound option.
Submit your invoice plan to your healthshare and update them later with payments so they will issue a check to you (some like CHM do this in pregnancy). After you complete payments, or after the birth, upload your final paid invoice. Your healthshare may then request a different itemized version, which I'm happy to help make for you.
Co-care with an OB practice can be difficult to get double-reimbursement for since they see that as duplicate prenatal visits. Knew Health has honored both claims.
Medishare is absolutely frustrating...there's confusion and ridiculous requirements each time.
